How we're going to link other diseases (besides Migraine, Arthritis, Asthma, Heart disease and Diabetes) to the Mediclim Index

We often get asked if we're able to link other ailments to the Mediclim Index and hence to weather changes, and, if we can, why don't we?

The answer is that we have no doubt that other health problems have a weather component amongst their triggers but, as yet, there is no available, statistical proof. And we take pains to offer only well founded information to our subscribers.

However, we do have plans in the works to resolve this problem...in the following way. We intend to invite people who suffer from illnesses other than our five core diseases to log in with us, weekly, for 26 weeks. During that period we will send a weekly reminder email that asks them to log in to a personal diary to say which, if any, of the preceeding seven days their ailment has kicked up. After 26 weeks we hope to be able to tell which of our 14 Mediclim weather states is the most likely, according to their personal record, to cause them a problem.

We will then alert the subscriber when that weather pattern is passing through their area, in just the same way that we do now for the five core diseases.

In this way we will be able to help people with other diseases we are interested in, such as fibromyalgia, epilepsy, c.o.p.d. and emphysema, allergies, eczema, epilepsy, Alzheimers (via their caregivers), and chronic fatigue syndrome. This list is not yet complete by the way.

We will also be able to help people whose problem lies outside those ailments we have specifically listed. Using this method, anyone who thinks his or her health concern is weather related will be able to find out.

We will also be able to correlate the information (without identifying people specifically, of course) and publish it, so that others can take advantage of it.

We're thinking of calling this program the V.R.P....the Volunteer Research Program. If you can think of a better name, please let me know.

Jock,

Hosting is my favorite ever

Hosting is my favorite ever since I was in highschool and college.Like my idol Jimmy Kimmel,he's such a good host.Lost, and ABC original drama has finished its final season. Lost is one of those shows where you have to have been watching it for nearly all 6 years to keep a concept of what's going on. New viewers find it hard to get into the narrative, and old viewers are little by little dropping off of watching the show. In either case, I won't be the main one to kill this ending, in the event you missed it you should search for a method to watch it as it provides six year solution that will only be given once. In accordance with producers, there will be no more continuations of this show.

Menier's Disease

My husband has Menier's Disease, with symptoms of vertigo and especially tinitus. The tinitus is especially extreme during changes in barometric pressure. It took us a long time to figure out but we finally put it together. Two days before any weather change when a high or low pressure system is coming in his disease is worse. So crazy.

VRP - Fibromyalgia

I have had fibro. for way over 10 years...with symptoms the docs and pharmacists could not pin down. One of the best explanations I have heard to describe fibromyalgia is: "Arthritis of the muscles". My hair can ache, my eyeballs can ache....if there is a muscle....I can feel it! I am retired now, on CPP Disability... and am able to follow my own timetable...each day is a new beginning...and with various meds I am able to cope. Otherwise I would not sleep(because of restless legs) and would be of no use to myself or anyone else. Fibromyalgia is not a terminal disease...life could be alot worse. This is MY story...and I love to read about you also. This site is great....thank you for the warnings!!!!

grand mal epilepsy, Asthma, and arthritus

I have those, and have fits during the day and at night aswell, i find the heat doesnt help, especially the epilepsy and with the muggy weather.

Epilepsy

I signed up for the migraine alert even though I have epilepsy. I was working in MN and he winters there were so bad for me the doctors told me to move back down south and stay there. They said it had to do with the barometric preasure. I def. have learned to watch the weather and adjust my conditions and medications accordingly.

Is the service working?????

Before you start extending the service are you sure the service you are providing is working correctly? I have not received a ALERT in weeks, yet the weather here is nice hot sunny day last Tuesday and then a low pressure arrived and we have had rain, rain, clouds, gale force winds, no sun and NO WARNING?
