FIBROMYALGIA

The weather changes, effect us, just like arthritis sufferers. So, to say that, I feel like I've been hit by a truck, is an understatement. We went from sunny and warm, to dark, heavy pressure and windy, just like that. I'm in Yuma, AZ. Hope this doesn't last long.

Fibro/chroic fatigue

My daughter was diagnosed with both and after tons of blood work, finally sent her to a wellness clinic and found out she has celiac and is now on a gluten free diet and has no more pain.......

RH negative blood

I was just wondering if anybody on here has negative blood. Usually people with this are more sensitive, and do have more problems with thyroid, gluten sensitivites, also fibro and pain issues in general because of their sensitive nature.

Negative Blood

Yes I am A Negative blood type I have a very sensitive to many food and drugs and in some case definite allergies I often felt my thyroid was out of wack but my last function tests (6months ago were normal. I do have fibro with multiple pain issues.

RH negative blood

I also have RH negative blood and suffer from fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, osteo arthritis and migraine headaches. I also have sensitivities to perfumes and cigarette smoke. I have often wondered if there is a reason why I am so sensitive to everything....

RH negative blood

I was very surprised to read your submission. I could have written that about myself except I don't have hypothyroidism. I had not heard that those with rh negative blood made you more sensative. I certainly had a lot of issues with pregnancy because of it. Where does this information come from? October begins a downward spiral for me until spring. I wonder if this is common for those with fibromyalgia.

blood types

The question about positive and negative blood types intrigued me. I have a positive blood type, but have hypothryroidism and fibromyalgia. I was wondering where your information came from; whether from a doctor or alternative health provider. I am always interested in new theories regarding fibromyalgia; and there are always plenty of them out there!

My fibro is better after starting thyroid hormones!

I tell everybody I know with fibromyalgia to go get their thyroid checked out by a good, up to date doctor who knows thyroid. I had fibro for years. It got to the point I was in pain almost everyday. Then I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid, and started thyroid hormones. I had some wonderful, unexpected side effects. Soon my daily leg/arm pain was gone, (and so were my PMS migraines and my horrible painful periods)! It's over a year now, and I have only had a few fibro flareups all year. Apparently there's alot of books and research on the link between thyroid and fibromyalgia. (google Dr. Lowe fibro) HTH somebody!

Fibromyalgia

Hello there! I too have painful periods when I was young and perhaps this had something now to do with fibro. I also had two miscarriages in my late 20's and perhaps too it is related to fibro? I have not had a flare up for a long time.......interesting although it comes with a sleep disorder and I toss and turn all night and never ever get sleep! Funny about the theory of thyroid as my dad has it and my son early 30's...........I will get it checked out! Wish they could find out why but I have no pain now and am running a marathon soo there is hope and remission? Yes, it does exist and I once was a naysayer until.........I got fibromyalgia. I am tired a lot but plough through and I think I am one of the lucky ones. I would love to see up to date information but havent found any lately. They need to look in the brain ............we lack something to help with pain and sleep. I take nothing no pills.............eat banannas, turkey for sleep and massages. Concerned with the weight gain and side effects of drugs! I was interested in your story! Good luck!

thyroid hormones/fibromyalgia connection

I am very happy that you found the source of your pain! However, you may not have ever had Fibromyalgia because the symptoms of fibro and the symptoms of low thyroid are the same. Widespread body aches and pain, depression, no energy, etc.; they are all symptoms of both disorders. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and have been on thyroid for years, but I still have the same symptoms because I have fibromyalgia. I do agree that if you are suffering from the above issues, see your doctor and ask for a thyroid blood test. Be sure to have the doc test your T3 and T4 levels because sometimes the thyroid levels will be normal or low normal, but the T3 or T4 levels are low. Congratulations once again for being almost pain free!!

Arizona

I thought about moving there but a physician told me it wasn't good for asthma because of all the plants, etc. that are there. My son is on Key Biscayne during the winter months working but the rain and humidity bother my asthma but it would definitely be good during the winter.

Fibromyalgia

There are three places in the United States that has the least barimetric pressure change. A small area in S.California, a small area in S. Arizona and a small area in Florida. We chose Yuma, AZ for that reason. Though, we get few changes, when we do it is extreme. I seldom drink, but had a terrible whiplash accident over 30 years ago, the muscle still knots in my back. When, I can't take the pain any longer, I take one shot of bourbon with water and 15 min. the muscle is relaxed. Recently, I was in horrible pain with Fiibro and I did the oneshot of bourbon with water and 15 min.later the pain was tolerable. It's possible it might work for you. You might want to flavor with Crystal Lite or something. I'm a big girl, I drink it plain.

Fibro & weather NEED TO MOVE!!!

I too suffer from barometric pressure drops pjchilis. do you know exactly where the area in Fla is ??? what towns??? Because I have figured out that the warm climate makes me feel so much better, I have decided to probably move to a place such as Florida or Arizona in order to live a more "normal" life and not have to suffer the way so many of us do especially with the colder fall & winters in the north!!! Here in the Northeast the last decade or so. . . I swear it has been getting colder like the folks in areas like northern NY, Wisconsin, and Michigan experience!! BRutal!!! Not fun for anyone suffering from Fibro, Arthritis, Migraines. . . etc. etc. Not only does the Barometric pressure effect the Fibro but also migraines! hence the Mediclim alert comes in handy. I too have noticed that a good drink or too can make one feel better, but unfortunately I usually pay for it the next day. My body sometimes feels like a truck hit it!!! But I know all too well that when pain is so bad you would do anything to get relief, so some days we must pick our poison as they say. I would rather have some relief for a time than none at all. Sometimes our remedies may just get us through until the weather or whatever your trigger is passes!! Right? Thanks to you all for sharing your treatments--- will be having a chat w/ my doctors!!!

Fibromyalgia

My doctor actually told me that alcohol (in moderation) would be helpful when I have a flare-up. Of course, he said that it's not a good thing to become dependent on it, but it does work. I don't do the bourbon thing (although I may have to try it!) but a good highball works too. I have been doing pretty well this winter, even with all the snow and cold we've had here in Michigan but I attribute that to exercising and stretching. I find that even if I'm hurting a little, if I work out moderately I have more energy and less pain.

Fibro and Bourbon

I have never heard of that remedy but will try it. The winter climate in South Dakota seems to affect me more each winter. I do acupuncture once a month and go to a wellness center for water aerobics, strength training and cardio. If I follow that routine I do good. When the fatigue hits, I cant do anything by the time I am done working. That's when I need it the most. I had a bad "brain fog" this week and just can't think when that hits. I had acupuncture the next day and had many bleeding points when she removed the needle. I bruised in one spot. That has never occurred before so my "energy highway" as my doctor calls it was really blocked. I had a spinal cord injury in a car accident 25 years ago and then got hit by a driver running a red light 5 years ago. It has really reduced my quality of life. I have osteoarthrits in my back and hips, chronic fatigure syndrome and asthma. Sometimes it is overwhelming. I just found this chat group so will check it regularly. Sorry for the long reply.

weather and fibro.

the weather really effects me. when the pressure drops i hurt and feel that truck that runs over me often! but lightning seems to make me feel better for some reason. When its hot and it has deffinately been hot in Oklahoma this summer, I am awful and if its too cold i hurt, and of course when the storm fronts blow thru or when its rainy and dreary i feel worse.

lightning

My body is a barometer too but never noticed anything about lightning so will need to watch this summer. South Dakota has kinds of weather so I am up and down.

fibromyalgia

I didn't know weather effected Fibro. How does it connect to the pain? Betty

weather and Fibro

The studies done suggest the pressure makes the muscles expand like the blood vescules do in migraine headaches. There have been several studies done, The first one was in Sweden. Also, a study shows Fibro patients develop more "Substance P" than other people. "Substance P" regulates the nerves interpretation of pain by the brain. With us our "Substance P" overflows the nuclei of the nerves and flows where it's not suppose to be. That's why we feel more pain. Check out "The Fibromyalgia Assoc.". the new advancement of recognition of this condition is remarkable. A lot of things occur in your body that you never understood why, are Fibromyalgia. I have found that Fibro is not all bad. For me, it seems to open up my sensitivities more than most people. So, I don't just hear the music as much as I feel it. The intensity of nature's beauty, some times touches my soul. That's sort of a nice trade.

just wondering

I know I just posted about negative blood, but you sound like someone who does have negative blood because of your sensitivity and the research you do on things, which is a characteristic of an RH negative person, needing to know answers. You can also have these characteristics even if it is in the family. I have done a lot of research on medical issues and I too have read about this "substance P" You are right to have a positive attitude about the whole sensitive thing because you do notice things more. Unfortunately, I have a lot of pain issues, along with fibro, and thyroid. I am definitely better since I am treated for my thyroid, and it took them forever to be convinced I had hypo because it didn't show up enough on their test, but I definitely had the symptoms.I think there are more to it than just Levothroxine, and I am going to talk with my doctor about the other hormones that go with thyroid function, plus the endocrine loop itself, and what the other glands are doing. Oops just realized I had posted on the negative blood before, there's the brain fog that goes with fibro, try to overlook. Thanks

Weather and Fibro

I too hurt worse when the weather is changing. Some days I can barely get out of bed but I find that once I do, I seem to loosen up some and actually hurt less. That is interesting that it opens up your senses to experience more. I am a person who loves so deeply that it almost hurts...and some jazz or classical music stirs me up inside until I can't help but cry. I wonder if that could be connected to my fibro...??

blood type

I have been studing RH- blood (am A-) and I visit a RH- forum and I have severe pain issues and was recently diagnosed with Fibro, although I don't have classic trigger points but the doctor does think I have it. I tested positive for RA also. On this forum for RH- there seems to be a lot of people with Fibro, and thyroid problems, I have hypothyroid also, it seems a lot of these problems may be connected. I feel sure I have autioimmune problems, which on the forum I go to there are a lot autioimmune disorders, most of us on there are highly sensitive, and that is one of the strong characteristics, like nerve sensitivies, light, sound, chemicals, electricity, weather, have intuitivness, electrolyte problems, like excessive thirst, and many other things that are kind of odd. But, anyway, just wondering if any of you have RH- blood.

weather and fibromyalgia

For me, every time the barometric pressure drops I have more pain. I live in the Thumb of Michigan, and in the past two weeks, I have had at least 4 MeciClim alerts; each one occurring when the weather changes to damp, dreary and stormy. As to Yuma AZ, I am surprised that you are suffering so much, what with your drier air and warmer climate. As they say, "I feel your pain."

barometric changes and fibro

when the barometer drops so do I. dreary wet weather makes me hurt worse but a thunderstorm with lots of lightning makes me feel aliv e! it relievs some of the pain away and gives me energy. i dont know why but i have talked to othe fibro sufferers who feel the same. There is something about lightning.

fibro and electricity

I am playing with an electrical muscle stimulator at this time and have some results. It applies electrical impulses through electrodes placed wherever needed and has several options on the rhythm of the stimulation. It targets the nerves and or muscles. Your information made me want to forward my own.
